Marcia's 1963 Meteor
By Adrien Piorier
Marcia is one of our female members that has a car of her very
own. She has helped lovingly restore it and drives it whenever
she can. This is a brief history of how it came to be.
In the fall of 2002 while Marcia was in Virden visiting family,
a few club members were at an auction where spotted a sweet
little 63 Meteor. It was a low mileage V8 4 dr car but as Cliff
Relf said, "This car has Marcia written all over it". We bid on
it and the bought the car. A phone call to Virden was made and
she couldn't wait to get home even though we didn't tell her
what we bought. From the moment she set eyes on it, the Meteor
became a very important part of her life. She almost immediately
added custom dual exhaust, wire wheels and a few engine dress up
goodies. Over the next 3 years the car would be stolen and
stripped, bought back and restored, painted and displayed and
most of all…..driven.
In the summer of 04 at the NHRA nationals she saw an older
Fairlane with a thumping 302 and decided that she needed more
power. Back in WPG she purchased a 302 from a Torino and
proceeded to have it built with the goodies like cam and pistons
to make the bite equal the bark. Once built, she added an
aluminum intake, 4 bbl Holley etc. With help from a few members
she put the engine into her car with a C4 auto and then went on
to add Hooker headers, MSD ignition and a whole raft of other
goodies. Marcia does as much of the work as she can herself
whenever she can and it has all paid off.
Marcia's little Meteor has been in Rodorama, written up in
Willy's Garage (Wpg Sun), Classic Cruising (Wpg Free Press) and
took home a trophy at World of Wheels in 2006. Marcia's work and
effort has not gone unnoticed by the car community and she was
awarded the Female Road Enthusiast Special Honour (FRESH) trophy
for her work. She continues to make changes to her little ride
and enjoys all club functions where she has been an active and
welcome player. She loves the Wed night Pony Cruz where she has
only missed 4 nights in 4 years and has driven to many out of
town events including the Devil's Run the last 3 years in a row.
She loves the club and works hard to earn the respect of the
guys she looks to for help and likes to call friends. The club
guys have helped make her feel like she earned the right to wear
her sleeve patch and you know she wears it proudly.
Current upgrades are the installation of HD front & rear sway
bars, new exhaust system with cutouts & a set of heads all done
up and sporting a new set of full roller rockers. She continues
to look for things to make her little Meteor better and we know
her passion will continue to impress us all. |
